What's that SUPER MODEL doing in my workplace?

Halinka’s book What’s that SUPER MODEL doing in my workplace? was launched on International Women’s Day 8th  March 2012. “The book is equally relevant to men and women, it discusses issues that need to be talked about; issues that affect all of us as members of society, employers and employees, as parents, siblings, children, as leaders and lovers of life,” says Halinka.

This first edition includes many observations on work and diversity that people, particularly women,   can identify with. The issues are blatantly obvious when you become aware of them.

“With an insight into the corporate premise and the common behaviours within the walls of big companies, it is easy to see the choices facing aspiring professionals and how to effectively address potential issues as they arise.”

READ and confront your own BIASES

When reading the book, follow these suggestions on how to read it to ensure you get the most out of it.

  • Remember when you are confronted with a new idea you will naturally have a reaction to it, that’s your own bias in action.
  • As you read, see what sections/items resonates with you.
  • Give yourself some time to develop a new thought pattern – take time to research the issues, and the look at those sections again, to see if you can come to the issues objectively
  • The idea is not to agree with all of the perspectives given, but to develop empathy for new ways and not shut out new possibilities
